Anti-Jam vs LPD: Umbra Link for Drone Comms

BLUF: “Best anti-jam drone communication system” searches mix two different problems. Anti-jam = keep the link up after the enemy knows you are there. LPD (low probability of detection) = do not give them a clean signal to find in the first place. Umbra Link is sold for the detection threat model: below-noise-floor DSSS, invisible to standard spectrum analysis and passive intercept. In active development in our Indore RF lab; early access for Indian drone OEMs—not a shipped product today.

Doodle Labs Sense / Mesh Rider–class systems detect interference and hop. Useful. Still findable. Umbra Link’s wedge: the signal is designed so standard analyzers and passive intercept do not get a carrier to chase.

Where Classical Anti-Jam Still Matters

Directional antennas, FEC, rate adaptation, and hopping remain valid tools when the jammer already has a geolocation. Umbra Link does not pretend those techniques are useless—it refuses to conflate them with LPD. If your RFP only says “anti-jam,” ask whether the customer also cares about being found. Many defense/security UAV programs in India do.
