BLUF: FHSS and detect-and-hop radios excel at dodging occupied channels. They remain findable. DSSS, pushed below the noise floor, is the path we productize for LPD. Umbra Link is elexResearch’s below-noise-floor DSSS datalink for Indian drone OEMs—in active development in our Indore RF lab, early access now—because our buyers need invisibility to standard spectrum analysis and passive intercept, not only jam survival. When FHSS Still Wins
- Congested ISM where the main pain is collision, not SIGINT
- Ecosystems already standardized on hopping modems
- Teams with no LPD requirement in the threat model
If that is you, buy a hop radio. If your review board asks “can a handheld analyzer see us?”, hop is not enough.
When Umbra Link Wins
- Defense / security / BVLOS Indian OEMs who treat findability as failure
- C2 and telemetry that must not beacon
- Programs ready for early-access evaluation while measured figures mature through engineering phases (TBD specs stay TBD)

Hybrid DSSS+FHSS can make sense in some architectures. Our sold early-access wedge is below-noise-floor DSSS LPD for C2/telemetry. We will discuss hybrid only inside an eval if your threat mix demands it—without diluting the LPD claim.
